I have had the profound opportunity to participate in the See Jane Write Girl’s Write-In on last month. The Write-In was to me, real evidence of a girl squad with a purpose. I met women writers who were artists, book writers, bloggers, and poets. We mingled with food for thirty-minutes and Javacia Harris-Bowser, the leader of the pack, gave a warm welcome, a theme, and suggested writing prompts. We wrote for one hour and reconvened to share excerpts from what we had written. Some of us shared our writing for the first time with others besides our relatives. Others of us wrote with an urban fervency that might have been too hot for young ears to experience. We shared excerpts from intriguing historical fiction to suspenseful hooks from murder mysteries. I shared an excerpt from my writing project: a fictional novel on bullying. The passion that flowed in and through words engulfed the room and held us all at attention. To think if Javacia had not birth this idea of a Girl’s Write-in, how many of our ideas would still be swirling around in our heads, unfounded. This was the first in person Girl’s Write-In. For See Jane Write members, a virtual Girl’s Write-In is held weekly.
What idea are you pregnant with that will draw the interest of others just like you with the same like passions? I genuinely believe there is an idea that only you can uniquely birth into the earth. Begin today brainstorming ideas for live events, or events on social that will make an impact on the lives of others. Find your squad (#squadgoals)
I am currently building a new blog that will focus on education. I am excited about starting from the ground up to impact others in the area of education. I am now looking for a squad of educators who willing to be intentional leaders for K-12 schools that effect change in a time of urgency. Don’t worry; I will continue with Eagles Mount Editing, inspiring others to write, blog, and brand. On June 5, at 6:00 P.M., I will be speaking to See Jane Write Members about “Three Things You Need to Jump Start Your Book Project: Grammar, Guidance and Gumption” But if you are a writer and an educator, my new educator blog is coming soon.
So, once again, I encourage you to put it out there and brave yourself to build your squad.
